BANG Closes Shop?
From Jayski's: BANG CLOSED? hearing that BANG Racing, who was to run a limited Busch Series schedule in 2005 has closed its doors. Travis Kvapil, now in the #77 Kodak Dodge, was to driver for BANG, and drove in the Truck Series last season for the team.(1-21-2005)
If this is true it comes as no surprise what-so-ever. Larry MacReynolds suddenly left and Toyota also suddenly pulled their support of BANG last season. I'm thinking this may turn out to be another case of someone pulling the wool over the eyes of a lot of people in Nascar. Alex Meshkin talked big and maybe he had good intentions but everything with BANG seems to have fallen apart in a pretty big way. There was some talk last season of them not paying bills in a timely fashion and I wonder how much truth there is to that.
Travis Kvapil is lucky that he got the offer to drive the #77 because if all he was going to be doing next season was race Busch for BANG he might have some problems right now. Mike Skinner is also lucky that he hooked up with BDR last season when things went bad between Toyota and BANG. Unfortunately the other BANG employees aren't as lucky since they are all out of work. Hopefully they can find positions with other teams.
I would really love to know all the details of what happened with BANG but odds are this will be one more thing that will be swept under the rug.
