Hundreds of Giant Squid Wash Up on California Beaches
For some unknown reason 500 or so giant squids washed up on Laguna Beach and Newport Beach in California. Usually these squid are found in the deep sea and only surface at night and it's not common for so many of them to wash to shore like this. These aren't small squids either. Some of them weigh as much as 17 pounds. That must be quite some sight (and smell) to see so many of them washed up on shore like that. I've been to various beaches when lots of jellyfish have washed up but never anything else in such massive quantities.
This reminds me of when I went with my parents to Block Island. One day we were on the beach near a pier, not too long after a big storm and there were some interesting things being found that had washed up, probably due to the storm. One person found a giant starfish which was dead. It was huge and I can still remember the arms dangling down. I've never seen anything like it since.
