Jason Wiles To Leave Third Watch
This comes as no suprise to me but Jason Wiles who plays Bosco on Third Watch is leaving at the end of this season. Bosco has been barely seen thus far this season as Wiles was recovering from hernia surgery so TW had the character recovering in the hospital from being shot in the face. Given that they made it questionable as to whether Bosco would ever return to police work I had a feeling that Wiles might not be planning on re-signing for season 7 because having him unable to recover fully would be the perfect way to write him off. Of course since he's the most popular actor on the show many fans are saying that they won't watch once he's gone.
But I'm not suprised that Wiles wants to leave. Third Watch has been dreadful this season. Though somehow many die-hard TW fans think this is an amazing season I think the writing has been incredibly weak. So I suspect that Wiles and all the other cast members who have left the show recently don't want to stay with a sinking ship. This past week's episode was absolutely horrible and completely implausable. Basically it dealt with terrorism, something that is taken incredibly seriously in New York after 9/11, yet the NYPD that was depicted on TW took a very lax attitude toward the terrorist threat, as if they were just dealing with a drug deal. No way would the NYPD not call the FBI and other associated organizations if they captured one of the most wanted terrorists. It's things like that which drive me nuts because it's just sloppy writing.
I would be a little surprised if TW returns for season seven. Many cast members have left and many of the remaining characters have been ruined to the point where it's ridiculous that they still have jobs with the NYPD. It's really a shame what has happend to this show because at one time it really was outstanding. The show featured solid writing and good storylines. Not any more.
