The Day After Tomorrow...
...Jim and I are leaving for Las Vegas. But besides that The Day After Tomorrow is a movie about how drastic the effects of global warming might be. In the movie tornados destroy Los Angeles and another ice age freezes all of the Northern United States including New York. A scientist sets out to save his son who is trapped in New York and somehow miraculously, when everyone else is dying, he does it.
To say this movie is beyond ridiculous is an understatement. It's certainly possible that global warming will cause climate changes. But on this scale, this quickly? I don't think so. In addition, the plot has holes big enough to drive a fleet of trucks though. Biggest is that there is no way that this guy would be able to make it to New York and rescue his son by foot from Washington D.C. under these conditions, no matter how much arctic experience this guy has. But any number of things just made me roll my eyes about this movie.
The special effects were pretty good though so that was entertaining at points. But there's no way that seeing giant waves crash against the Statue of Liberty or a giant ship float through the streets of Manhattan would make me forget how dreadful the movie really is. Perhaps instead of spending a fortune on the effects, they could have spent a little more money creating a script that was a little better.
