Time to Worry?
When I wrote my previous entry about how Steve Park's team might be showing interest in another driver was thinking about it in terms of them talking about something for next season. But someone on SPC raised the possibility of Steve getting replaced this season. If I felt bad before about reading that finally when Steve found a team that he could race up front with that he seemed happy with they were talking with another driver, now I really feel unsettled by it. Steve has raced well for this team and he's definitely helped them improve from last season so I would be kind of surprised if they replaced him before the end of the season. However, there's always the possibility there's something going on that isn't yet known that would led to a parting of the ways before the end of the season. The timing of this information coming out, when the East Series has a break until August 16 worries me because they could test Payea in a car during the off-time. But it's entirely possible that nothing will happen before next season... or maybe not at all. At least that's what I'm going to keep telling myself. It wouldn't bode well for Steve to lose an East Series ride.

Hi Silver,
Is there any chance Steve would race in the cup series again? I know he had a real bad accident a couple of years ago, but do you think he would feel confident enough to drive in it again? I for one, would love to see him in a cup ride. I thought he had talent. I can't really remember what happened with DEI why he was let go. I like to hear your opinion.

I'd also love to see Steve race in Cup again - he definitely has the talent to race at that level. However, he said recently that he has no desire to race in Cup again - apparently he doesn't like the way the series has changed and doesn't think the racing is very good. You probably up whether he's confident - he does believe that he can race up front and win races in any car or truck as long as it's competitive, but I wouldn't be surprised if he does lack some confidence about racing in Cup and that's why he doesn't want to go back since things went so badly for him his last year in Cup. That was 2003 and he was released by DEI, then went to RCR - the results weren't very good for either organization. There's a lot of theories as to why Steve got released from DEI but I think a lot of it came down to lack of results. There are probably a lot of reasons why the results weren't very good, some of which were out of Steve's control, but ultimately the driver is often the one who gets blamed when the performance of the team isn't very good.
